Through its diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting, the Diocese of Palm Beach planted and nurtured seeds of faith in Catholic youth and adults participating in the Scouting programs of the BSA and GSUSA from 1984 to 2021 by offering the following:
- National Emblems and Diocesan Awards
- Coordinator/Counselor Training
- Adult/Unit/Eagle Scout Recognition
- Days of Recollection, My Promise My Faith Pin Programs and Resources
- Local and National Vocation Awareness Events
- Support to Catholic-chartered BSA Units
As of July 2021, the diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting as it existed since 1984 was disbanded and the DOPB ended its relationships with BSA and GSUSA, believing those programs "no longer uphold our values and traditions. In fact, they have become themselves antithetical to our way of life and the faith given to us by Jesus Christ." (from June 2021 email sent by J. Andy Baker, current DOPB Youth & Young Adult Ministry Coordinator).
Recognizing that many Catholic families will choose to continue their proud BSA and GSUSA traditions, this web site, as well as the Facebook group page DOPB Scouts (BSA and GSUSA) and email account [email protected] will continue to be maintained independently by experienced faithful Catholic Scouters who truly believe that "Scouting IS Youth Ministry" and will provide resources for Scouts and families who wish to access information on the religious emblems and activities provided by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting (NCCS) and the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry/National Catholic Committee for Girl Scouts and Camp Fire (NFCYM/NCCGSCF).
